A long-running UK online collector community with 2,350+ existing members needed to introduce paid subscriptions to sustain the platform — without disrupting existing members or requiring a full platform rebuild.
We configured WPForo's permission system alongside the Paid Membership Subscriptions plugin to gate the forum's content section behind a $35/year PayPal subscription. Existing members retained access to non-restricted areas automatically. New members are guided through a register-and-pay flow that auto-grants forum access on PayPal approval.
Visitors see a persistent "Join — $35/yr" call-to-action throughout the forum. Clicking through leads to a signup page with a PayPal subscription button. On payment approval, the account is created and the correct membership group is assigned automatically. Existing members continue to access the forum as before with no changes to their experience.
